Clubs
Kilworth has long enjoyed a proud reputation for its sporting activities. In 1928, the footballers affiliated with the four year old North Cork GAA Board, and the hurlers did so in 1932. Over the following decades our teams enjoyed what can be described as a moderate level of success and then, in 1961, came the momentous campaign that saw our Junior hurlers go through to the county final. But, they fell at this last hurdle to Cloyne in a replay that followed two replays with Éire Óg in the semi-final, and it was not until 1967 before they won their first county title. Truly, GAA has been was by far the main outlet for sport in those days and the only other sporting choice of any significance in those early days came in the form of an ailing tennis club. The situation was ripe for attention.
