Handball
Since its inception in 1984, the handball club with its base in the Sports Complex has gone from strength. Under the expert guidance of Michael Dunne, a former Chair of the Community Council and himself a talented handballer in his younger days,6children and youths have been initiated into the finer skills of the game. This has led to a large number of successes both at county and national level, and of particular note has been the achievement of Brid Horgan of Ballinparka who won the Under 17 All-Ireland girls’ title in September 2013. But this is not the only national title that has been secured by the club: John Kiersey was the All-Ireland Masters winner in 2012 and prior to this Dion Cahill also won a national title. This has been a source of great pride in for Council members and friends, but perhaps what has given them the greatest satisfaction of all over the years is the enthusiasm for the game exhibited by a great many of our young people.
